Biography

Soprano Carrie-Ann Williams graduated from The Royal Academy Opera on a full scholarship under the tutelage of Elizabeth Ritchie and Ingrid Surgenor. Carrie-Ann has most recently performed the role of Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore while also covering the role of Armida in Handel’s Rinaldo for Glyndebourne Tour 2019. Carrie-Ann has just finished working at The Théâtre du Châtelet where she covered Merab in Handel's Saul, and will be again returning to Glyndebourne Festival 2020, covering the title role in Handel’s Alcina. 


Other operatic highlights include: The Fox: Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Anna Maurrant: Weill’s Street Scene, (with Birmingham Conservatoire) Sãvitri: Holst’s Sãvitri, Miss Wingrave: Britten’s Owen Wingrave (both BYO) Alcina: Handel’s Alcina, Lucy: Weill’s Die Dreigroschenoper and Donna Anna: Mozart’s Don Giovanni (all with RAO) Maria Bertram: Dove's Mansfield Park (Opera South), Tebaldo: Verdi’s Don Carlo (Grange Park Opera).


In summer 2018 Carrie-Ann joined the Glyndebourne chorus for their season, where she also covered the role of Kate Pinkerton in Puccini: Madama Butterfly and a Noble Orphan in Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier. Carrie-Ann has also covered Erste Dame: Mozart's Die Zauberflöte for Glyndebourne Festival in 2019. 


As a Soloist, Carrie-Ann has had several opportunities and has performed many oratorio works across the country, recent work includes: Mozart: Exsultate, Jubilate, Mendelssohn: Elijah, Dvořák; Stabat Mater, Handel: Messiah, Haydn: Creation and Brahms: Requiem. Carrie-Ann’s highlights include her soloist debut June 2017 at The Royal Festival Hall performing the soprano solo for Mahler: Symphony No.2 conducted by Semyon Bychkov, she was also a member of The Young Singer Project with Salzburg Festival 2017 where she performed with Austrian chamber orchestra, The Camerata Salzburg performing Mozart: Alcandro, lo confess… Non sò, d'onde viene, K294. 


Carrie-Ann has had much success in competitions, including The Mario Lanza Operatic Prize, the John Ireland Prize, the Ashleyan Opera Prize, the Stuart Cameron Smith American Song Prize, the St Clare Barfield Operatic Distinction Rose Bowl Award and was awarded audience and runner up for the Clonter Opera Prize 2018.
